Accessibility Statement

Accessible, inclusive and responsible access to our online nikah services

True Nikkah is committed to providing an accessible, inclusive and user-friendly experience for everyone, including people with disabilities, long-term conditions or additional access needs. We recognise that accessibility is an essential part of delivering responsible, trustworthy and ethical services, and that this matters particularly in the context of marriage, which should be available to every Muslim who wishes to enter it.

This Accessibility Statement explains our approach to accessibility, the measures we take across both our website and the ceremonies we conduct, the adjustments available to you, and how to contact us if you experience any difficulty.

Accessibility at True Nikkah forms part of the wider ethical framework set out in our Code of Practice, under the oversight of our Director, Dr Mahmoud Abdelrahman.

1. Our Commitment to Accessibility

True Nikkah aims to make its website, its booking process and its nikah ceremonies accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology, ability or circumstance.

Our service exists because many couples find it difficult to arrange a nikah through conventional means. Disability, chronic illness, sensory impairment, neurodivergence and mobility limitations are among the reasons a couple may find an in-person ceremony impractical. For some couples, an accessible online ceremony is not a convenience but the only realistic route to marriage. We take that responsibility seriously.

Accessibility supports fair and equitable access to Islamic marriage, and forms part of our broader commitment to transparency, inclusion, dignity and responsible service delivery.

2. Standards and Frameworks

True Nikkah works towards the principles set out in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium, which are the internationally recognised benchmark for digital accessibility.

We are also mindful of the accessibility expectations arising under legislation applicable across the markets we serve, including:

True Nikkah does not claim formal certification or audited conformance with any specific accessibility standard. We consider it more honest to describe what we actually do, to be open about known limitations, and to improve continuously, than to assert a level of compliance we have not independently verified. We align our approach with recognised accessibility principles and evolving best practice over time.

3. Measures to Support Website Accessibility

We take reasonable and proportionate steps to improve accessibility across the True Nikkah website. These measures include, where technically feasible:

Our aim is to reduce barriers and support access without unnecessary complexity.

4. Accessibility of Your Nikah Ceremony

A nikah conducted through True Nikkah takes place over a live video call, and accessibility applies to the ceremony itself as much as to our website.

Your Imam will adapt the ceremony to your needs. Adjustments we can make include:

Consent must always be given clearly and freely by both parties. Adjustments are made to the way the ceremony is conducted, never to the conditions of a valid nikah. Where a person requires support to communicate, our Imams work to ensure that the person’s own free consent is expressed and witnessed properly, rather than assumed or given on their behalf.

5. Requesting an Adjustment

Please tell us what you need when you book, or at any point afterwards. You do not need to provide medical evidence, a diagnosis, or an explanation of your circumstances. We will ask only what is necessary to make the arrangement work.

Requests can be made:

Where an adjustment requires preparation, such as arranging captioning or preparing written material in advance, please give us as much notice as you reasonably can so that we can put it in place properly.

Any information you share about your access needs is treated confidentially and used only to arrange your ceremony, in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

6. Alternative Formats

Information about our service, and your nikah certificate itself, can be provided in alternative formats on request. This may include:

If you require information in a format not listed here, please ask and we will do what we reasonably can.

7. Contacting Us

We offer more than one contact channel because no single channel suits everyone.

Email and WhatsApp are our primary channels. Written communication works well for many deaf and hard of hearing users, for people who find telephone conversations difficult, and for anyone who needs time to compose a response.

We recognise that written channels do not suit everyone, and that some users, including some blind and partially sighted people and those with certain motor or cognitive conditions, may find speaking easier than typing. If a written channel is a barrier for you, tell us and we will arrange an alternative, including a scheduled voice or video call with a member of our team.

Further detail on our contact channels is available on our Contact page.

8. Third-Party Tools and Known Limitations

Some elements of the True Nikkah website and service rely on third-party providers, including payment processors, security tools, video conferencing platforms and live chat software.

While we aim to select reputable providers that support accessibility and data protection standards, we do not have direct control over the accessibility of all third-party platforms, and their accessibility features may change without notice.

Known limitations include:

Where limitations exist, we seek to minimise their impact, offer an alternative route where one is available, and welcome feedback that helps us identify barriers we have not spotted.

9. Ongoing Review and Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing process rather than a fixed state.

True Nikkah periodically reviews website content, structure, booking flow and ceremony practice to identify opportunities for improvement. Reviews take account of user feedback, changes to our website, changes to third-party platforms, and developments in recognised accessibility guidance.

We aim to address accessibility issues where reasonably practicable, taking into account technical feasibility, proportionality and the nature of our services. Where an issue cannot be resolved quickly, we will say so and offer an alternative way to access the service in the meantime.

This statement is reviewed at least once every twelve months, and sooner where our website or services change materially.

10. Scope of This Statement

This Accessibility Statement applies to the True Nikkah website at truenikkah.com, to our booking process, and to the nikah ceremonies we conduct.

It does not apply to external websites or services linked from our site, or to third-party platforms operating under their own accessibility policies.

11. Feedback and Complaints

If you experience difficulty accessing any part of the True Nikkah website or service, we want to know. Feedback from users identifies barriers that internal review does not.

Please contact us through our Contact page or email info@truenikkah.com, describing the difficulty you encountered, the page or part of the service involved, and the device, browser or assistive technology you were using where you are able to tell us.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within two working days and to respond substantively within ten working days, explaining what we can do and by when.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may raise a complaint under the process set out in our Code of Practice. Complaints are escalated to our Director.

12. Our Approach

True Nikkah believes that accessibility supports dignity, inclusion and confidence.

Marriage is half of a Muslim’s deen, and no one should be excluded from it by a barrier that could reasonably have been removed. We are committed to improving access to our services in a way that reflects the trust couples place in a scholar-led, ethically governed Islamic marriage service.
